Before You 'Ask' this Fall, Do This.

If you're deeply involved with a nonprofit, you know that fall campaign is right around the corner. However, before you craft your solicitation letter, before you organize your approach to major donors, thank your donors.

There is no such thing as thanking someone too much. Your last thank you, in response to your donor's gift, is likely a distant memory or at least not top of mind. Donors often express that they feel like they're "always being asked for money". This isn't because of your solicitation efforts, but rather their perception that it's the only reason you want to engage with them.

So I repeat -- There is no such thing as thanking someone too much. Your organization may very well be making efforts to show impact and appreciate your donors. Make sure you do this yet again before solicitation season is underway.

"Just want to say that our organization wouldn't be able to have the impact it does without your involvement. We are grateful you are part of our mission."

Do this.
